Excellence in cybersecurity
In 2020-2021, our students also achieved excellent results in several IT security competitions:
- In the top 5 overall out of more than 500 teams during a national cybersecurity competition, organized by the Cyber Defense Command (COMCYBER), under the authority of the Chief of Staff of the armed forces.
- In the top 3 out of more than sixty international teams (professional and student), for the qualifications of the European “Cube Apocalypse” CTF (Capture The Flag) organized by the University of the German Federal Armed Forces (Munich, Germany).
- In the top 5 out of more than 300 student teams during the DG’Hack challenge organized by the General Directorate of Armaments (DGA).
Capture The Flag (CTF)
A “Capture the Flag” event is a computer security competition where several teams compete against each other whose objective is to exploit (or protect themselves against) vulnerabilities affecting IT infrastructures. (software, network equipment, connected objects), in order to break into a system and steal flags, constituting evidence of the intrusion.
On January 4 and 5, 2022, TELECOM Nancy will organize the 4th edition of its annual cybersecurity event “Capture The Flag” on the school’s cyber-range platform in its premises for students from several training courses.
Retrospective video of the 2021 event:
TELECOM Nancy is also participating in the exercise CTF / War Game “Cyber Humanum Est” from January 25 to 28, 2022 in collaboration with the Ministry of the Armed Forces, the ComCyber, the Defense Base of Nancy, the University of Lorraine – Lorraine INP and its schools TELECOM Nancy, Mines Nancy, Polytech Nancy, IUT Nancy Brabois, LORIA and the Métropole du Grand Nancy. The exercise will take place face-to-face on three sites including the cyber-security platform of TELECOM Nancy.
Cybersecurity at TELECOM Nancy
TELECOM Nancy trains engineers in computer science and digital sciences over three years and offers a specialization in cyber-security called “Internet Systems and Security“.
The school is also a member of the CONCORDIA European network of excellence in cybersecurity and of the European alliance of skills in cybersecurity Erasmus + REWIRE , and participates in the cyber-reservists pole in collaboration with the Ministry of the Armed Forces.
Equipped with cutting-edge technological equipment including a cyber-range platform and driven by the expertise of its teacher-researchers and its partner companies, TELECOM Nancy now offers a cyber-security training offer that is unique in the Grand Est region and responds to a crucial need: the global shortage of experts in cyber-security (1.8 million unfilled positions by 2022 according to Gartner).
